Last week I blogged about a soda store here in southern Cali. that had a variety of hard to find or interesting sodas. Well, they also had some old time, nostalgic candy. Most were candy you might find now but with the older packaging. However, I did find what I considered to be one of the best candy products ever from my childhood…Bubblegum Cigarettes!!!
Sorry, the pic is a little dark. It doesn’t do this genius of candy justice! I was in such a dilemma, whether to open the box and enjoy holding this cigarette between my index and middle finger while sitting out on my front porch or leave this box alone. I chose to keep it closed and let it sit in my living room so everyone can enjoy the glory of it. I will have to get another box of these as I really want to open it. Plus, they have different box designs and I may have to get one of each!
Growing up I was a fan of the chalky candy cigarettes. They had the pink tip to make it look like they were lit. They still have them but they call them candy sticks now.
I saw those too. I always enjoyed the bubble gum cigarettes because the paper wrapping made them look almost real. They even have the beige “filter” tip. They also had some sunkist fruit gems, big league chew and Beemans gum.
As the child of two smoking parents, as a kid I freaking loved these! I could be like a cowboy or movie star. I mean the chalky ones of course, I never had the gum ones. My dad would buy me the chalky ones.
As a soon to be new parent, I find them reprehensible to be still sold, but the kid in me says “Go to bed Old Man!”
😉
I’m with TC, I used to buy the chalky ones all the time when I was younger so I could be “cool” like my parents. That’s as far as it went though, I can’t stand cigarettes now.
